PSG Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.
PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 different times.
Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.
The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.
Yet, Marseille struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.
Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
